Upload Your Own HTML by Site Build It! Tool
Or more commonly known by the SBI users as UYOH.
After learning how to build a web page through the Block Builder process and what I have learned through that process it was time to as Dr. Evoy would say 'Take the Training Wheels off!'.
Although the Block Builder process is a very excellent process it is for beginners or people that don't have the time or inclination to learn HTML and how to write their pages the way they want them to be presented to their readers.
The main thing to remember with UYOH is you have to know how to code in HTML otherwise you are just banging you head against the proverbial wall. You can spend more time in refining your web page with a HTML editor and see what your page will look like before uploading it to your SBI site. This Quality Assurance has the advantage of the page not going live until you upload it thus preventing a mistake from being published.
The Upload Your Own HTML or UYOH is fairly easy to use the 'building process' walks you through each step and after a few pages you will learn what blanks to fill in and what you don't need for the page you are uploading.
The process also checks for major HTML errors such as missing keywords, or mal-formed meta tags. Once you have uploaded your page you can add any include files (files that are common to all your pages like your navigation, adsense code, or analytics code that are added when you build the page saving you the time of coding the same items over and over again for each page).
When you finish uploading the include files the process then asks you if you have any graphics to upload with the page. After uploading your graphics you have a chance to 'Preview' the page, then you can 'Analyze' you page for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and at this point if you are satisfied with your preview and analytics then you can build the page and are done.
One of the main reasons for doing UYOH is you can make your own Look & Feel with a custom CSS file, create the include files, and have more control over the complete process. A side benefit is you have an exact copy of each page saved on your own computer instead of trying to figure out how to download your web site after it is built.
When I started my first two web sites I had one web site with a no-name hosting company and the other one with SBI. I have found that the SBI process is a lot easier (even the Block Builder process) and more intuitive than some of the wanabe hosting companies that cost much more.
All the best,
Monte

Monte,
Great article! Thanks for contributing.
Here's my question.
How long would it take someone with no knowledge of html to get to the stage where they might feel comfortable building on their own?
In other words can webmasters use the block building method and combine basic html at first?

It is not a matter of knowledge it is a matter of time and need.
If a person using the Block Builder system is comfortable with the system and doesn't have the time to learn HTML then a WebMaster might never move away from Block Builder. There are WebMasters that use the Block Builder and have had a SBI site since Ken Evoy started Site Build It!
A WebMaster will pick up pieces of HTML of course just by being associated with the page creation process.
But I think to take the 'Training Wheels' off and write your own HTML is a personal choice. You can do more if you understand how to write HTML and how to make all the puzzles of the code fit together.
So is 'necessity' the mother of leaning?
In my case yes.
