Inbound Links

What's the best linking strategy?

The real power of SEO is in one way incoming links from other sites. It's very simple in the minds of the search engines. If a lot of sites link to you, without you linking back to them then your site must be good one.

Well, how do you get the best links?

Do you wait for other sites to find you?

Not me. I'm not waiting around for other sites to find me.

As of Feb. 1st, this blog is less than a week old but it's already been indexed by Google.  I hear people crying all the time about taking 6 weeks to 3 months to get indexed by Google, so either I know what I'm talking about when it comes to the power of inbound links, or my grandma works at Google.  Since my grandma died in 1988, I guess I must know what I'm talking about, so you can take the advise below or get your grandma over to Google for a job interview.

don't believe me about the google indexing after 1 week?  go to google search and type this in the search box: site:themadwebmasterblog.com

Let me give you 3 quick ways to get inbound links.

  • Article writing
  • Forum participation.
  • Creative thinking (ie: offer an affiliate program, eBay auctions with a link back to your site, brandable eBooks and software etc.)

Content + linking = Getting search engine indexed pages.

Great content + great inbound links = Search engine indexed movement.

It's not enough just to get indexed. You don't want to be on page 250 in the search engine list.

You want to be on page one or two and at the top for lots of visitors to find you.

So you need great content and great inbound links.

What's a great inbound link?

A great inbound link is a link from a high ranking site to a specific page on your site with in context keyword focused links.

Here's a normal everyday link that's not too powerful. "For a great look at SEO click here" and then when you click the word here, to arrive at a site. What's the site address? (www.yoursite.com) That's not a very powerful link.

How about this one. "For a great look at SEO, go to www.fyipromo.com/index.html Not a whole lot better is it?

Here's a very powerful link to your site. "Want to see how to use different linking strategies to get better search engine optimization? FYI Promo can show you the best linking strategies. Just click on fyipromo linking strategy to get some of the best linking strategies."

Now look at where you end up when you click on that link.

The keyword phrase "linking strategy" ends up taking you to the page www.fyipromo.com/linking-strategy.html

That's the best kind of link you can have! Numeral uno! ...the best incoming link from another site.

Now if that site happens to be about Internet marketing, you've got a link on steroids. Let that site have a page rank of 3-5 and stand back for an explosion. Do that with 30-50 sites and you'll get a tsunami of traffic.

(note: if you want this stuff emailed to you instead of having to come back and check all the time, just look over to the left hand side where that little orange button is, put your email address in there and click on subscribe)

Until next time...

I'm new at this so explain what article directories you are using that allows back links to your site.

    Thanks,

    Hello Lisa

    Welcome.

Most article directories do not allow anyone to link in the body of the article. That's what the "bio" box is for. Sometimes it's also called the resource box.

That's where the power of your back links come into play. All article directories allow you to link as an author with one link and some directories allow up to 3 links.

Here's an example of the one I use:

About the author: Paul Ellis has been building websites since 1997. He is known as "The Mad Webmaster" and his website http://www.fyipromo.com includes entries to his hilarious "Webmaster Diary". He's funny, crazy, and his no-nonsense approach to building websites is refreshing. You can get his "Best Affiliate Program Reviews too!" You have full permission to reprint this article provided this box is kept unchanged.

Do you notice where the 3 links go. Go ahead and click on them if you like, but more important look where you end up.  There is a link to my main site, a link to webmaster diary page, and a link to best affiliate programs.  Those are powerful links and keyword specific.
